ABOUT MALLY

Mally was adopted and brought to Stanthorpe in 1945 by parents Dolly and Sydney Shelton where she lived and went to school. These were great days Mally and her sister had a great lifestyle, not much money but great love and freedom.

Mally still resides in the Southern end of our Shire with her husband David who is the team-leader at Ergon Energy Stanthorpe. They have reared four daughters here and can boast nine grandsons and one granddaughter.

In 1991 Mally became the only woman to be elected on to the Stanthorpe Shire Council, and only the second woman Councillor to ever serve on the Council. The first woman, Councillor Dorothy Halloran, went on to become Deputy Mayor and then Mally followed in her footsteps some years later.

In 1994 the Stanthorpe Shire Council went from being a Divisional Council to a Council of a whole. Mally topped the vote at this election.

The next election was in 1997 which was also a triumph for Mally as she became Deputy Mayor that year and held this position for the next 3 years.

When the Shires became amalgamated in 2004 Mally again put her hand up and was privileged to have topped the vote of our new Southern Downs Regional Council.

Mally's number one priority is being a strong representative for ALL residents, and she is an avid fan of all things Rugby League.
